As part of the development of the Stockport LSCB, we extended our range of sub-groups and established several new groups to address publicity and communication needs, plus performance management. The terms of reference for all the groups were developed by those groups and agreed by the Board. They reflect the move from a Child Protection to a Safeguarding focus.
Key developments have been:
- Policy and Practice – An extended focus to link child protection policies to prevention policies including Stockport's Common Assessment and Child in Need Framework, plus an increased focus on policy implementation in order to influence practice.
- Training – An extended focus as above, with the sub-group overseeing multi –agency training in relation to prevention not just protection, and a clear strategy linking multi-agency training to single agency training.
- Performance Management –This group focused on building an overarching safeguarding performance framework including outcomes and measures so that the LSCB can fulfill its accountability requirements.
- Publicity and Communication – This group promotes publicity and communication in relation to safeguarding in line with LSCB priorities. The basic premise of this group is to promote safeguarding of all children and young people in Stockport. Working with institutions, organisations and communities to support their active participation in the safeguarding of children and young people.
- Child Death Overview Panel –This panel is now a joint panel consisting of Tameside, Trafford and Stockport Councils’. Working together we will learn lessons from child deaths and develop strategies to prevent them.
- LSCB Implementation Group – This group co-ordinates and oversees the work of the sub-groups. It both influences the work of the LSCB and is accountable to it. Communication between this group and other equivalent groups is critical to its effectiveness
