Stockport 's LSCB was established as a Shadow Board in April 2005 and was launched as a Statutory Board in April 2006.
During that year we developed our LSCB compact which focused all agencies on the transition from child protection to safeguarding and promotion of welfare, and what that meant in terms of the objectives for the Board.
All statutory agencies are well represented in our Board membership, and in deciding who should be a member we focused on those within sufficient authority to take decisions within their organisation, plus some with specific areas of expertise to advise the Board.
Our business plan is linked to the objectives we set ourselves, and reflects the extended safeguarding remit which we are committed to. Clear governance and accountability arrangements are critical to the success of the LSCB and we have been negotiating these with relevant Boards and partnerships in Stockport. We are still working on ensuring the LSCB has the right level of strategic influence, but are clear that it sits level with the Children and Young People Strategic Partnership. We have developed a working agreement with our strategic partnership in order to clarify the roles of the two Boards.
Effective communication is obviously critical for the LSCB to work well and our communication strategy has been agreed in order to assist with this.
